你 会 说 汉 语 吗?Nǐ huì shuō hàn yǔ ma?
Mandarin is the first language of around 850 million people. It is the official language of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China (Taiwan), as well as one of four official languages of Singapore.
Mandarin is one of the thirteen or so regional Chinese languages (the main other being Cantonese). Spoken Chinese is distinguished by its high level of internal diversity. Most of the regional varieties are mutually unintelligible but modern-day Chinese speakers of all kinds communicate using one formal standard written language.
